Milton Moquete Prof. Lago Eng. 110041 17 December 2013 Is a Bachelors Degree Worth it? Switching jobs is not easy especially when it comes to being attached. Can you imagine how hard it is to get attached to a job or something you really like and then having to let it all go? Degree require jobs come and go, college graduates that expect a job or that form an attachment to their jobs can lead into a disappointment especially those whose furthest education is a bachelors. Anthony P Carnevale questions college student by asking is college worth it? . Students may respond yes and some no, the reason for this is because they dont know what is going too happened after they graduate. The only way that college students will determined the answer to Carnevales question is by experiencing life` after graduation. For some it might go well and for others it might go bad. For the students that life after graduating when well their answer most likely would be yes. The students whose answers was no could be for these reasons, they werent able to find a job after graduating, or they found a really good paying jobs that did not require no type of education and felt that they wasted four years of their life. There are people who did not go to college and cannot find a good job because they require a college degree. As I talked to a college graduate I learn many things that college graduates should look out for. Manuel Perez graduated college in debt. A lot of students dont realize that most of them owe money. A high percentage of college students take loans, after graduating students think that their finally free, not realizing that they need to pay that money back.

Loans are taken because parents didnt have the money, financial aid didnt cover the student or because they werent able to receive a scholar ship. Students dont realize the truth about real life and what comes after and this can impact their answer to Carnevales question. Thank god that I was able to find a job a month after graduating in a bank. Manuel Perez studied finance in college and was really thankful to find a job, not being able to find a job was something he was worried since he entered college. I know that the same worried Manuel had is a big worried to college student including myself. Manuels tells first year students that Sometimes finding a job after graduating depends on your major. This is another reason that can impact graduates answers to the previous question. 2013 is really different from 20 years ago, for some jobs a bachelors degree is not enough. Education is expecting more and more from job seekers. My uncle, Hector Moquete, was born in the Dominican Republic and was the first one among my dads eleven brothers and sisters to come to the United States. When he first came to the US in 1990 he did not have a college degree, but he told me it was Easy to find temporally jobs. My uncle worked in many places during that time. The reason for this was because many of his jobs werent stable. He then found a job in a hotel, where he stayed for Six years, because the pay was good and it wasnt hard labor. There he was getting good money and it wasnt hard labor. My uncle was getting attached to this job until the moment came everyone who did not have a college degree was laid off because the hotel was going out of business.

The answer to Carnavels question is an independent answer. Hector answer yes, a college degree is worth it. If he would have had a degree the hotel would of transfer him to a business where he would have made double the money. College graduates should not get Attach to the jobs they are able to get after graduating. They never know when someone with further education might take their job. Even jobs back then werent very stable. Having a good career in mind and a bachelors degree doesnt mean that you will have a stable job. This is a big problem because student thinks that they would have no problem finding or permanently working with a bachelor. Evidently, more and more students are earning their bachelors degree and still cant manage to get a job. Jobs now require individuals to further their education and earn degrees such as doctorates. This can make a college student feel discouraged about earning their bachelors degree. I feel like now I have to further my education and learn more about my major and find out if it will make me successful. I need to think over the question myself is college worth it (Carnavale 297). The reason that I question it is because a lot of jobs like education are going down. For example, teachers often tell their students whose major is education to consider changing their majors. The reason for this is because teachers are often getting laid off because of new graduates coming in with higher education. My question is, Is a bachelors degree enough?.
