Here are some guidelines to keep in mind for a successful year. Please read them through and ask if you any questions. You and your parent(s) or guardian(s) must sign where indicated to affirm that you understand and accept these terms. Rules and Procedures General Behavior: 1. Please respect your fellow classmates as well as your teacher both inside and outside of the classroom. This includes respecting one anothers property and space, respecting school property, and addressing one another courteously and appropriately. 2. Listening to one another is vital for success in this class. Please do not talk over other students or the teacher. The teacher will not repeat any directions more than once, and it is unfair for other students to repeat themselves because you were talking. 3. If at any time you have a question or would like to participate, please raise your hand and wait until the teacher calls on you. 4. Please come to class on time and prepared with all necessary materials for this class. These should be the only materials which are out. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in the classroom. If you are found using any of these devices, they will be confiscated. You are not allowed to leave the classroom or begin packing up until you are told to do so. 5. You must follow all school rules. If you are in violation of any of the rules, there will be proper consequences as the teacher sees fit. If this type of behavior persists, students will be sent to the office and/or given detention. Transitions and Interruptions: 1. If you need to use the bathroom or go to the nurse, please ask and do so with minimal disruption to the classroom. Make sure you sign out and sign back in. Only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time. 2. Moving from one activity to another should be done as quickly and quietly as possible. If you are misbehaving or distracting others from their work, you will be asked to leave the classroom and be given a zero in participation for the day. Use of materials and equipment: 1. You will be notified if we will be using any classroom resources besides your text and normal supplies (such as a supplemental technology). Please use these resources appropriately and respectfully. 2. Any laboratory equipment must be used appropriately and according to the guidelines in your Safety Contract. If you misuse any materials, you will not be able to participate in the laboratory experiment.

Class Activities: 1. This class will involve many hands-on laboratory experiments and activities. Please follow directions and keep noise at a minimum. 2. If I need to get everyones attention in the middle of a project, I will switch the lights off and on to signal that everyone should stop what theyre doing and listen. Grading System Final Grades will be assigned according to school policy. The breakdown for this class is as follows: Class Participation: 10% Laboratory Reports/Projects: 25% Tests: 25% Quizzes: 20% Homework Assignments: 20% Cheating of any kind is absolutely unacceptable. This will result in an automatic zero for the assignment. It is expected that you make an active effort to participate in class. This includes answering/asking questions, completing assignments, writing problems on the board, etc. Extra Credit Assignments will be assigned periodically. If you have an idea for an extra project, please come and talk to me about it. If you are in need of extra help, I will be available before and after school. Please let me know that you are planning to come: Ill be happy to help. Assignments must be turned in on time. Lab reports receive 10 points off for each day they are late. Unless otherwise noted, homework assignments will not be accepted late. If you are absent, please contact me as soon as possible to see what you missed. Tests must be made up the day your return unless another arrangement is made.
