My father was nor rich or poor.

In 1501 I joined an expedition that went to explore the north coast of Spain.

WHO AM I?
o

The group explored the north coast of the continent of Spain.

Then, in 1502, the party sailed to the island of Hispaniola.

I actually raised pigs on the island! In 1510, I stowed away on a ship that carried settlers and supplies. Also, when I was in Hispaniola, I gained much in debt.

WHY AM I IMPORTANT?
o

Another thing I did was that I explored the gulf of Panama.

But, are you ready for this? The biggest thing I did was that I was the first person to see the eastern side of the Pacific ocean!
Before I saw the pacific, established a town called Darien and another named Akla. Finally, on January 19, 1514 I came back from a long journey with a ship loaded down with jewels and gold worth six-thousand pesos!

WHAT IMPACT I HAD ON THE AMERICAS AND THE WORLD

o

I built ships on the narrow strip of land thats now Panama. When I was working on that land I was mainly working on digging a canal through it so that other ships could get through to the new part of the Pacific. As I built the road, I also had to build two towns at each end. The biggest thing I did was that that I claimed all of the Pacifics shores for Spain.

WHEN AND WHERE I MADE MY JOURNEY:

o o

In 1501, I sailed to the North coast of Spain. In 51502, I sailed in a ship full of other men to Hispaniola. Finally, I was sent to look for gold by a king and his sons to look for gold in what is now Panama.

HMMHOW DID I MAKE MY JOURNEY?

o

I shipwrecked at the extreme western tip of Hispaniola.

o
o o o

I settled in Santo Domingo for 7 years.

I got away by sneaking onto a ship in a barrel. After I did that, I reached the Gulf of Darien. I encountered cannibals during a trip across Panama to find gold. While I did that, I had to get through thick rainforests that where full of mud!

SOME COOL STUFF ABOUT ME

o

People said that I was a blond, good looking guy.

o
o

I was a master at fencing!

I also married an Indian chiefs daughter in 1513.

The end of my story was when I was beheaded with four friends in a town square.

Wait, how am I still here.???
