Thecentralcityisfoundtohavethreecentralbusinessdistricts(CBDs):aremnantofthecolonialCBD,an informalandperiodicmarketzone,andatransitionalbusinesscenterwherecommercehappensfromthe curbsideorstorefronts.TheformercolonialCBDhasverticaldevelopment,thetraditionalbusinesscenteris usuallyazoneofsinglestorybuildingswithatouchoftraditionalarchitecture,andthemarketzoneisopen air,informal(economically),andyetimportant.Sectordevelopmentistheencirclingzoneofethnicand mixedneighborhoods,inwhichpeoplehavestrongethnicidentities.Miningandmanufacturingzonesare foundnexttosomepartsoftheseethnicneighborhoods.OntheoutermostpartofmanyAfricancities,there areinformalsatellitetownships,whicharesquattersettlements.Thesesquattersettlementsconsistofpoor neighborhoods,orshantytowns,inwhichpeoplemakehomeanywherethatispossibleoropen,nomatterif
