It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Career Development. I am excited about the upcoming semester and I look forward to working with you. I believe that: Education is a learning process for both the teacher and the student. As students learn from us, we learn from them. It is an exchange of lifes knowledge and experiences so that we can both reach our full potential and function within a society, being confident about ourselves and respecting one anothers rights as an individual. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The goal of this course is to promote essential skills and knowledge students need to develop a positive self-concept. This course will provide students with opportunities to identify interests, abilities, aptitudes, values, and personality traits as they relate to career planning, to develop a keen understanding of the value and benefit of work, and to differentiate between jobs and careers. REQUIRED MATERIALS/SUPPLIES: One Journal Folder that will be kept in the classroom. ***** One Folder for the student to keep handouts and for homework Notebook Paper Flash Drive o (if you do not have one, get one! We may not use it every day, but be reasonable for having one) Pen or Pencil

*******JOURNAL REQUIRMENT Every class period will begin with a journal entry. The writing prompt or an Essential Question will be written on the white board. It is the students

responsibility to maintain the journal folder by keeping all journal entries safely inside the folder, which will be checked and graded periodically . Students are expected to

CLASSROOM/BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS: Rules: 1. Respect yourself, your teacher and your classmates. 2. Follow all school rules. *no eating, no cell phones, no electronic devices, etc* 3. Listen for and adhere to all directions the first time they are given. 4. Dispose of all trash in the proper receptacle. 5. Do not ask to leave the classroom for any reason other than a true emergency. Expectations: 1. Come prepared for class every day. 2. Complete all work in a timely manner. 3. Use the time I give you in class wisely. I will give you plenty of time in class to complete the majority of your work. If you do not use that time, you will be at a disadvantage & must complete assignment on your own time. 4. Ask questions if you do not understand something.

POLICY FOR LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Each student is expected to complete all assignments in the allotted time. Late assignments are penalized. MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: All students will be provided an opportunity to make up missed assignments, regardless of the reason for absences. Make-up work must be done AT HOME or AT LUNCH, NOT during valuable class time. It is the students responsibility to initiate the make-up work for missed assignments, tests, and classwork. Students must assume responsibility for obtaining the required information and making necessary arrangements with the teacher. Parents should assist their child with requests for make-up work and other missed assignments and tests. IT IS THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN AND COMPLETE MAKE -UP WORK. Opportunities to complete makeup work at lunch will be provided and are mandatory. MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS POLICY: If a student turns in an assignment that receives a failing mark, the student has the opportunity to redo the assignment. Exclusions may apply as decided at the discretion of the instructor. The student must conference with the teacher within one week after receiving the failing grade. After conferencing with the instructor, the assignment will be given back to the student to redo. The assignment must be completed and returned within one week after the conference. It is the students responsibility to take advantage of the redo policy. At the end of 2 weeks, students will no longer have the option to redo assignments.
