33 12 530Adjusting backlash (with checking backlash) Core activity

(-)Removing shaft sealing ring of wheel axle from housing
Use a small screwdriver to remove circlip (1). Pry out shaft sealing ring (2).

(-)Adjusting shims
Separate the housing cover from the rear-wheel drive and lift it just far enough to permit removal of the shims. Use only compressed air for cleaning. Use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the shims and make a note of the thickness. Warning Risk of injury from the sharp-edged layers of the shims. Work carefully when removing layers: use a sharp tool and if possible, wear gloves. If backlash as measured beforehand is excessive, remove the appropriate number of layers.

Technical data Coating thickness, shim 0.05mm 4 coats on each side, each coat

If backlash as measured beforehand is insufficient, install thicker shims or fit new shims. Two or more shims can be combined. Remove layers accordingly to obtain the correct overall thickness.
