    How to Calculate Your Grade Point Average Eastern Michigan University

    1. List your courses (whether all or just those in a major or minor) and the credits and grade for each course. 2.     3. Add up all of the grade points. Divide this total by the total number of credit hours included. The result will be your grade point average, using the scale in our current university computer system. Example: Semester Information: BIO 105 4 credits A MATH 110 3 credits BENGL 121 3 credits C+ PLSC 112 3 credits B Totals from above scale: 4 (cr) x 4.000 (A) = 16.000 pts 3 (cr) x 2.700 (B-) = 8.100 3 (cr) x 2.300 (C+)= 6.900 3 (cr) x 3.000 (B) = 9.000 = 13 (cr) & = 40.000 pts Final Calculation*: 40.000 / 13 = 3.076 GPA = 3.07 *GPAs are NOT rounded

    REMEMBER: EMU requires that all undergraduates have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.000 or higher before they can be approved for graduation. This minimum applies, as well, to the students major and minor areas. Some programs of study require more than these minimum conditions for graduation. Students whose cumulative grade point average falls below 2.000 will be placed on academic probation, or, if the deficit is substantial, may be subject to academic dismissal. Questions regarding these policies, especially as they relate to academic probation, should be referred to the Assistant Director for Academic Actions in the University Advising and Career Development Center (200 McKenny Hall; 734-487-1207)
