Portfolio Proposal Student Information Jonathan Pratt Azusa (Virtual) Course: EDUC 526 Capstone Experience in Digital Teaching and Learning Professor: Dr. Jennifer Courduff Introduction to Solfege and the Curwen hand signs Type of Project This project instructs 2nd grade students and purposes to help them develop a deeper understanding of Music. It uses Solfege syllables and Curwen hand signs in order to accomplish the goal. This project takes place over multiple weeks and uses quantifiable assessments to monitor its success. Goal(s) of the Portfolio Students will utilize classroom technology in order to accomplish the learning objectives of this unit. It is my hope that the students will become great musicians after developing a foundational understanding of Solfege and Curwen hand signs. The reality is that most of these students will not continue into the expert stages of a field of music, but all students can learn life lessons through musical training and technology integration. Student Learning Outcomes of the Portfolio The goals of this portfolio will be met through the educating and assessing of each student. The students will learn necessary fundamentals of music, upon which they will analyze existing music and create new music. This will take place through the use of music notation software, video production software, and the classroom website. Outline Student Objectives o The students will be able to sing the song Do-Re-Mi while applying the proper hand signs. o The students will be able to list all Solfege syllables in the proper order. o The students will be able to, while utilizing Solfege St., identify whether or not the given syllables are neighbors. o The students will be able to complete the Musical Hopscotch. Educational Standards o Creating: Plan Develop a plan to present musical ideas and explain how connections are made among selected musical ideas. o Creating: Make, Evaluate, Refine Develop and refine musical ideas incorporating peer and teacher feedback guided by teacher and student selected criteria o Creating: Present Share their music through performance and notation with peers/informal audience.

o Responding: Analyze Identify how musical concepts are used in musical selections and enact, write, or explain their analysis. o Performing: Rehearse, Evaluate, Refine Using teacher/peer feedback, evaluate and refine their performance using teacher and student and selected criteria.
