Goal #1

I will continue to learn and understand how to use SMART boards and increase my knowledge about how to effectively use them in the classroom by attending at least one PD session and reading an article per month on Smart technology from October 1, 2013 - April 30, 2014. As well, I will collaborate and learn from my mentor teacher on how to implement SMART technology into the classroom during my practicum from September 1, 2013 April 30, 2014.

Rationale:

Smart boards can be very effective tools for creating student engagement in learning; however teachers often seem to be uneducated about how to effectively use SMART technology to its full potential in the classroom.

Goal #2:

I will find new comprehension strategies that I can use in the classroom. I will do this by reading an article/resource every month and attending a professional development session on Literacy/Comprehension from October 1, 2013 April 1, 2014. As well, throughout my practicum I will work with my mentor teacher to discuss strategies and try one new comprehension strategy within my Grade five practicum class each week.

Rationale: A major focus at Penhold School this year, where I am completing my final
practicum, is on Literacy. I would like to participate in trying to accomplish their literacy goal throughout my time at Penhold School. It is important that students can not only read fluently, but also actually understand what they are reading.
