History I/8 What America Means to Me

The U.S. has a variety of cultures, languages, religions, and races. Usually all of it comes together. But our past and present both show that we are not as loving to everyone as it might be stereotyped. America of course is not all bad, yet unquestionably has its amazing moments. I believe people that live in America have the opportunity to write their own story. For me, this means that they can choose which road they take at the fork, to speak metaphorically. People are allowed to give their vote and decide what occupation they would like to have. But, as Langston Hughes said in I Too, Sing America poem, things arent always nice and fair. Not everybody can choose whom he or she would like to marry or be able to prevent Immigrations from deporting a loved one. Often, a woman cannot acquire the same job and the same pay as a man can. Though, unlike in an autocracy, people in America almost always can voice their opinion on issues and strive to change things to the way they should be. President Roosevelt mentioned, in his speech, that there should be an equality of opportunity in the United States. I agree with this statement, but I would also like to add that there should be enough opportunities to get a job in the first place. As employment leads to money, a few more job openings can lead to numerous further opportunities. America does involve quite a bit of money in and of itself, but the wealth doesnt seem to distribute nearly enough over people. The opportunity of employment will help America

reach its goals, so to speak, and become a wonderful nation that people will want to visit, and dream of living in. As many have said about America: residents have the right to dream. At first, when I heard this, I thought it was a bit too good to be true. Now, I have come to an understanding that though something sounds cheesy, it doesnt mean that it isnt true. People should be able to dream freely about future. To make these dreams come true, it is required that America has an abundance of resources to build upon. We already have had so many dreams become realities, why end the miracles?
