Im sorry for how late I am posting this hw! Treat all of these, except the last one, as short answer questions just jot down a point or two for each to guide your reading and help you remember these sources. Apology 1. What did this trial look like? Who were the judges? How does Plato tell us about it?

2. What does he have to say about Aristophanes?

3. What is Socrates inspiration/motivation for doing what he does? What has he been doing that has made many mad at him and what conclusions has he been reaching?

4. Why does Socrates compare himself to a gadfly on pages 518-519 and what does the metaphor mean?

Crito 5. Whose opinion does Socrates think you should listen to and whose opinions should be ignored? Why?

6. Who is Crito? Why does Socrates refuse to escape with him and what do you think of Socrates argument?

Big Picture Socrates Effect: How does Platos description of Socrates in his trial and in his conversation with Crito differ from Aristophanes portrayal of Socrates? After reading these two sources + what you read in your textbook - Who is Socrates and what role did he play in Greek society?
