CODE OF ETHICS FOR THE STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS

MISSION The mission of the Student Council is to provide an atmosphere of unity within the student body, causing a better higher educational experience and a better reputation in the society. VISION Promote Students Welfare The student Council should promote the physical, intellectual, socio-cultural and spiritual well-beings of the students, through relevant and sustainable programs which address universal needs. The student council serves as a catalyst to maximise and realise the potentials of each student. Taking part in social Transformations The Student Council shall engage the student body in an environment that harnesses their diverse knowledge, skill and values toward social transformation. The Student Council shall reinforce and heighten the students' sense of patriotism to produce a more committed and responsive citizenry, in order to become a resource for the society. CODES OF BEHAVIOUR ACBT has a number of expectations of students in order to maintain its high standards and to ensure the academic integrity of the courses. It is expected that all the members in the Student Council observe the following codes of behaviour. DRESS CODE Members are expected to adhere to a dress code which requires clothing to be clean, modest and appropriate. Members are not permitted to wear indecent or revealing clothing to meetings. ATTENDENCE FOR MEETINGS All the members are expected to attend all the Student Council meetings. Anyone who is unable to attend a meeting should email their reasons for not participating in the meeting to acbtstudentcouncil@outlook.com. Attendance sheets will be marked at the end of every meeting and will be presented to the Staff advisors at the end of the week. LATENESS TO MEETINGS Members are expected to arrive for all the meetings on time. It is disruptive to have members walking into the discussion room after the discussion has started. If the members must leave early, they should inform the secretary before the meeting commences. CLEANLINESS OF CLASSROOMS No food or soft drink is to be taken into the discussion room. All members are expected to leave classrooms clean and tidy at the end of the meeting.

BEHAVIOUR DURING MEETINGS All the members are expected to comply with the following standards during the Student Council meetings: Demonstrate respect for all the members in the council.

Turn off all mobile phones during meeting is taking place.

Not to eat or take soft drinks into classrooms (bottled water is accepted).

Unethical behaviour will cause cancellation of the membership or any disciplinary actions made by the council.

POLICIES AND PROHIBITED ACTIVITES 1. Alcohol and illegal drug abuse Members are expected to not to consume or bring alcohol or any kind of drugs for any function of the Student Council, or when representing the Student Council. 2. Bullying Although definitions of bullying vary, most agree that bullying involves: Imbalance of power: people who bully use their power to control or harm and the people being bullied may have a hard time defending themselves.

Intent to Cause Harm: actions done by accidents are not bullying; the person bullying has a goal to cause harm.

Repetition: incidents of bullying happen to the same person over and over by the same person or group.

2.1 Types of bullying Verbal: name-calling, teasing.

Social: Spreading rumours, leaving people out on purpose.

Physical: Hitting, punching

Gender/race/age criticism: gender discrimination.

3. Verbal Abuse and/or Harassment Verbal abuse is the use of obscene,profane, or derogatory language that abuses or defames another person. Harassment is any action,verbal or nonverbal, that annoys or disturbs another person or that causes another person to be reasonably apprehensive or endangers the health or safety of another person. No member will engage in conduct that limits or restricts the freedom of another person to move about. No student will participate in conduct or nuisance actions that may prevent or distract others or the legitimate pursuit of their personal affairs. No member will use a telephone, computer, other electronic media, or third parties to carry out any harassing offences.

4. Decision Making Criteria All the members are expected to respect and give equal opportunity to the members to voice their opinions at the meetings and the final decision will be made based on the majoritys preference.

5. Selection Criteria to the Student Council Step 1 The members who are interested to join the student council will be given an application to be filled and hand over to the representative of the Student Council. Step 2 Once the application is handed over, there will be an formal interview carried out by the council members with the person who wants to join the student council. Step 3 After the interview the secretary will inform the success of the outcome by an e-mail. 6. Student Council Meetings Official Student Council meetings will take place twice a months, as to discuss about the progress of new projects and existing projects. Office bearers will meet up every month with the staff advisors. All the members will be notified by e-mail or telephone the date, time and venue of the meeting seven days prior to the meeting by the president or the secretary. The secretary will read out the minutes of the previous meeting and agenda at the beginning of every meeting and will be sending a copy of the minutes of the meeting to every member and all the staff advisors. 7. Confidentiality All the discussions which are taking place should kept as confidential within the council members and should not be passed out to third parties.

THE OFFICE BEARERS The office bearers of the Student Council shall consist of a president, Vice-president, Secretary and a Treasurer. President: Presides at meetings, prepares the agenda, appoints committees as needed, keeps members informed and serves as a role model.

Vice-President: Presides as president when president is absent, strives to involve members in discussions, works closely with advisors, and serves as a role model.

Secretary: Keeps accurate minutes, keeps the current membership roster, handles all correspondence, and keeps member attendance records.

Treasurer: Keeps accurate records of expenses and income, assists in organizing fund raisers, presents a report at meetings, and assets with developing a budget, if needed.

PENALTIES FOR DEALING WITH BREACH OF STUDENT COUNCIL POLICIES General Misconduct A member will be deemed to have committed a breach of the Student Council policy if they: Breach any published any regulation of the Student Council.

Disobey any reasonable order or direction given to them by a member of the Student Council.

Knowingly or wilfully damage or destroy any property or premises of college.

Attack, harass or threaten to attack or harass any person.

Behave in a manner that is disorderly or detrimental to the interests and reputation of ACBT as well the Student Council.

Use obscene language directed towards any member.

Procedure for dealing with misconduct Any member in the Student Council alleging misconduct by another member is required to report the matter immediately to the President or vice-president.

The President or the vice-president will ask the member to give a detail description of the problem attaching witness.

This matter is then reviewed by the office bearers and if the case is found to be unwarranted, a letter will be sent to the complaint outlining the findings of the committee.

If the office bearers finds that a breach has occurred the following penalties may be applied:

(a) A reprimand (b) Exclusion of the Student Council Membership (c) Where damage of property is involved the member may be asked to pay for the damaged properties. (d) A written apology to the member who made the complaint.
