The life of Peasants

The average peasant in the feudal structure could be grouped into two main professions: farmer or craftsman. The daily life of a peasant starts in the summer as early as 3am. A peasant would start out with breakfast, usually pottage. Peasants were divided between slaves and serfs. Majority of the peasants worked three days a week in their lords land but they would work longer during the harvest and plantation periods. Peasants were forbidden from leaving the lords manor without seeking permission. The condition of serfdom was hereditary and one would be tied to his master unless he saved enough to purchase some land or if he married a free person. Princesses, or daughters of other suitably high-ranking nobles, were used as political pawns to gain power and forge alliances. From childhood many girls were promised to kings, and many marriages occurred before the princess reached her teenage years. The young women were uprooted from their home and sent throughout Europe to be married, often never to see their home kingdom again.

World Events

The black death arrived in Europe by sea in October 1347 when 12 Genoese trading ships docked at the Sicilian port of Messina after the long journey through the black sea. The people who gathered on the docks to greet the whips were met with a horrifying surprise: Most of the sailors aboard the ships were dead, and those who were still alive were gravely ill. They were overcome with fever, unable to keep food down and delirious from pain. Strangest of all, they were covered in mysterious black boils that oozed blood and pus and gave their illness its name: Black Death. They gain knowledge from the countries they raided they learned new writing math and language. They were out to kill and they were thugs. They would kill anyone or anybody when given a mission. It's hard to imagine how scary life was in the Middle Ages during the Black Death. By the time the disease ran its course, it had killed at least one third of the people in Europe and probably more. In Paris, France it's estimated that around 800 people died a day. There were so many dead that they couldn't bury them. They had to carry them to massive pits. Information about Tournaments Festivals

The Life of people during the Middle ages was dictated by the changes in the season. The different seasons and months of the year were celebrated with Religious Feasts and Festivals. Christianity was established in England during the Dark Ages. In the Middle Ages new stone churches and cathedrals were built. Religious festivals marked an event of religious importance for every month of the year. The rural population of the Middle Ages had their days of rest and amusement, which were then much more numerous than at present. At that period the festivals of the Church were frequent as each of them was the pretext for a forced holiday from manual labor. Tournaments were imported from France during the 12th century and formed an important element of Medieval military and social life. There were some fatalities. The number of fatalities dropped as the tournaments became better regulated. Medieval physicians were always at hand during the tournaments. Knights would fight as individuals but there would also be team events. The Tournaments were the favorite sport of Medieval Knights. Tournaments were enjoyed by both commoners and Nobles. A rich noble would sponsor a tournament and supply the coin for the prizes. A Medieval Tournament was a series of mounted and armored combats in which a number of combatants compete and the one that lasts through the final round or that finishes with the best record is declared the winner and is awarded the prize.
Ladies attended Medieval tournaments. Watching the men during the day and attending the feasts and banquets in the evening. The rise of the ideals of courtly love was dominated by the concept that that honor should be done to a lady by her champion. The Rules of Courtly Love allowed a Knight to express his admiration even for married ladies. Knights begged "tokens" from ladies. And were presented with "favours" such as a veil, ribbon, or the detachable sleeve of a ladies dress. These 'favours' would be displayed by the Knight attached to his arm, his helm or tied to his lance. The lady showed her favour to the knight who would dedicate his performance at the tournament to the lady.
