Microscope Cleaning and Checking Procedure Prior To Servicing

1) Wipe clean eyepieces and objectives with lens tissue or glass cloth. a) Remove objectives and use air blower to remove dust particles. b) Check for fungus with a hand lens. ie. Fine cotton like threads on the lens. !) Wipe and clean all outside surfaces with a moistened cloth. ") #se a prepared slide to check all magnifications. $) %ll powers of magnification should focus with adjustment of the fine focus knob. a) &roblems i) 'pecimen not visible with ($) objective* Slide is upside down ii) 'pecimen image has shadows* Dust Rotate eyepiece + does shadow move* Clean eyepiece ,ove slide does shadow move* Clean slide ,ove condenser + does shadow go in and out of focus* Clean it! Change objectives + does shadow disappear* Clean objective iii) 'pecimen image has a sharp unusual shape* Dust Rotate eyepiece + does shape move* Clean eyepiece ,ove slide does shape move* Clean slide ,ove condenser + does shape go in and out of focus* Clean it! Change objectives + does shape disappear* Clean objective iv) 'pecimen image has a streak across it* Grease, stains, mould Repeat moving eyepiece- slide- condenser and objectives and clean it with a clean lens tissue dampened with .)/ ethanol then dry with lens tissue. ,ove the tissue across the optics in a spiral motion starting from the centre and moving the circles out 0f efforts are futile- put out for 'ervice Company to repair. 1) Record the cleaning and checking of the microscopes in the ,aintenance Records.
