Kristina Harvey Social Justice Reflection Semester 2

During the end of the second semester much of the cohort participated in the Make a Wish walk. This walk was particularly important to me because I have had people close to me go through cancer treatment. Thankfully, they have all recovered. I cannot imagine being a parent, sibling, family member, or friend of a child who is battling a terminal disease. I have always been inspired by the Make a Wish foundation. In a lot of ways I think the foundation follows similar principles as OT. It strives to help children live life to the fullest by fulfilling their individual wish or dream. An occupational therapist providing palliative or hospice care to a child or adult would be striving to promote quality of life for that individual. I am sure in my future career I will encounter someone with a terminal illness and I hope I can promote the best care and quality of life for that individual in the way they deserve.
