Diana Fox Anna Reflection

MUS 525 Fall 2013

Annas enthusiasm and openness to her first session intrigued me because she was able to musically interact with both therapists in such a natural way. I was able to detect her effortless sense of musicality right away. With the progression of each session, her vocabulary, communication, and other speech elements improved. As a result, her comfort increased and she was able to further her communitcation skills outside of music therapy sessions. Her self-esteem and confidence grew as her successful musical experiences continued. Her musical development occurred in a sensible way and always with intention. She never seemed afraid to explore the tonal space that was given to her. With each session her musicality became more alive. Each of her musical abilities were nurtured and developed throughout all of her sessions, from melody to rhythm, improvisation and structure, she was able to respond to all of these muscal elements. She moved forward and made progress with each session. Her experiences in music therapy made her more open and tolerant of others.
