Introducing Gregor Mendel : The Father of Genetics.

DNA was rst seen in 1869 but the problem of its structure was not discovered until 1953.

Mendels experiments of inheritance began in 1854, BEFORE anybody knew about DNA.

His ideas were so ahead of his time that scientists did not understand his work and ignored him! It was not until the early 1900s (after his death) that his work was appreciated!

Blending? I propose traits that are either dominant or recessive. He is today credited for the: - Principle of Dominance, - Law of Segregation, - Law of Independent Assortment.

For each gene, the sperm has one allele and the egg has the other. Different genes are inherited independently of each other.
