INTRODUCTION 1The employment of relatives in the same area of an organization may cause serious conflicts and pro lems !ith favoritism "or the perception of such#$ and negatively impact morale. In addition to claims of partiality in treatment at !or%$ personal conflicts from outside the !or% environment can e carried over into the day&to&day !or%ing relationships. It is the City's policy to hire$ promote and transfer employees on the asis of individual merit. (e strive to avoid any suggestion of favoritism or discrimination in ma%ing employment decisions. 1O5IC6 4.1. 4.*. 4.0. 1,amily mem ers are prohi ited from !or%ing in the same !or% unit if it creates a situation !here one family mem er is a direct report to another family mem er. 2dministrative staff is prohi ited from influencing the employment "hire$ promotion$ transfer$ termination$ etc.# of anyone !ho is a family mem er. 2dministrative staff is responsi le for revie!ing employment decisions !ithin their unit to ensure that$ as far as practica le$ one family mem er is not a direct report of another family mem er. The City reserves the right to ta%e prompt action if an actual or potential conflict of interest arises involving family mem ers !ho occupy positions at any level "higher or lo!er# in the same line of authority that might affect the employment decisions.
