Report Paper Treatment of Zoo's in Utah Facilities that hold animals captive are not always the best.

They normally hold on to these animals as rehabilitation, a sanctuary for them to eventually return to the wild some cases the animal

can't return, !iven the facility the responsibility to help these animals survive. "owever, some facilities start out with the intentions to !ive them the proper care, but are then unable to provide the needs of the animals. #$ost of these animals are in bad health, and most %li&e the camels' stand on a cement platform...( )ays ** )ept +,,,, a vet student !ivin! a review on -ood Zoo's. "eidi .olver counters this statement by sayin! that it has to do with ta/ dollars and that the 0oo was built in 1121. )he also mentions that the 0oo has remodeled its facilities and has become educational. "er response to ** )ept +,,, has a five year increment. #Two !iraffes died after slippin! and fallin! at "o!le Zoo in 1112314. 5nother !iraffe died in +,,+ when its nec& became cau!ht in some fencin!, and two more !iraffes perished in +,,4 in unrelated incidents3 one from complications of a fractured le! and another from an illness, li&ely cancer.( U)65 reports in 6esert 7ews. P8T5 states that #The death is evidence that !iraffes cannot live safely at "o!le Zoo.( #P8T5 would li&e "o!le Zoo to stop e/hibitin! !iraffes(, says 9isa :ayne captive e/otic animal specialist for P8T5. 5 U)65 probe has even found some routine violations, but nothin! serious %6eseret 7ews'. "o!le 0oo now has four remainin! !iraffes. The reviews between ** )ept +,,, and the U)65 appear to be sayin! similar thin!s about the ;uality of the 0oo. "o!le 0oo doesn't provide the protection that the animals need, they are unhealthy and li&e the !iraffes, they are dyin!.

Report Paper <t's not =ust the !iraffes dyin!, two 0ebras died in +,1,. Ta=i died without warnin!, $onty was humanely euthani0ed. 5fter Ta=i died, $onty started showin! si!ns of distress. "o!le 0oo had a staff wor& tirelessly to save $onty. "e wasn't improvin! so they put him down %"o!le 0oo'. U)65 finds it suspicious to have two sudden deaths, and one of the 0ebras bein! euthani0ed %6eseret 7ews'. "o!le

0oo is not happy that they don't &now the cause of death. U)65 reports that the 0ebras have had bloody noses and cut !ums before they had fallen. 7ancy .arpenter su!!ests that it is #very suspicious( that after a wee& later, the 0oo still failed to have a definite answer even after the tests had been ran a wee& prior %6eseret 7ews'.

$onty had a chance of survival, basin! off what "o!le 0oo says. They basically described a depression that animals !o throu!h when a loved one is lost. They !ave him twenty3four hours to recover, then euthanasia when he didn't recover fast enou!h. 9i&e U)65 su!!ests, it is very suspicious. "o!le 0oo !ives the impression that they are tryin! to hide somethin! from the U)65. The 0ebra deaths had to have some particular reason behind it, "o!le 0oo didn't di! deep enou!h to find the reason why. They =ust chec&ed the intestines, the water and food ;uality and they chec&ed for bacteria. <f any further research was done, the 0ebra's source of death could be found. "o!le 0oo su!!ests that Ta=i and $onty were very active and always playful. They are also a favorite of many !uests. :hich then brin!s the ;uestion of why "o!le 0oo decided to #humanely euthani0e( $onty for an illness that mi!ht =ust ta&e some more time to recover than what they had !iven him.

Report Paper "o!le 0oo has a section for #.lose encounters(. <t's a place where people can !et a closer loo&

at the animals, and they don't have a place really to hide. Raindancer3>ess says #They aren't house cats who !et used to people.( )he also mentions that "o!le 0oo is not bi! enou!h and for them to ma&e space for more animals, they have to shrin& the other e/hibits. )he also su!!ests that there are less animals on display because they are !ettin! shipped to different 0oos, happier 0oos. "o!le 0oo has a ti!er ca!e that is =ust a sin!le male ti!er, no shelter, nothin! to hide in. <t's =ust a raised bloc& of cement and metal bars. "e is wild, and his constant pacin! is a si!n of distress. There are si!ns for people to stay a certain distance away, but that doesn't ta&e away the loud noises or the bri!ht li!hts from cameras.

"e doesn't have any beddin! or any place to nap. This is not anythin! close to the ti!er's natural habitat. Ti!ers love water and they are playful animals that need somethin! to play with. They are also social the ti!er would be more comfortable if there were other ti!ers with him in a better e/hibit that does meet his needs of e;uivalence to the natural habitat. 7ot only do the animals !et depressed from the livin! conditions, people also !et depressed. People avoid !oin! to the 0oo because they don't want to see sad and stressed animals with poor health. .olver says that the 0oo is usin! ta/ money to ma&e more improvements in the 0oos. "o!le 0oo should use that ta/ money to improve the e/hibits, not the shops or the train rides or anythin! else that is e/tra for human happiness. The money left over from improved e/hibits should be used for people

Report Paper entertainment. <n my opinion, < thin& that "o!le 0oo has received animals very ;uic&ly since they opened and

they had to build the ca!es small to be able to fit all the animals that they have been !iven. They do the bare minimum re;uirements that the U)65 and P8T5 find acceptable so they can still &eep the animals that they are !iven. "o!le 0oo improves the human facilities before the animal facilities to !et people to &eep comin!. They slowly improve the e/hibits to match the new pro!rams that newly came out to earn those animals more reco!nition. The 0oo is e/pandin! and they do have a !arden for the animals that eat fresh fruits and ve!etables by the !iraffe e/hibit. ?verall, "o!le 0oo needs improvements on the e/hibits and the animals health. "o!le 0oo is causin! suspicion concernin! animal deaths, and they are mostly supportin! the spectacle of the 0oo oppose to what is best for the animals and the individual personalities.
