MINUTE OF THE SECOND GENERAL CONVENTION OF THE TAPLEJUNG SOCIETY UK (TSUK) HELD ON SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2011, AT THE PETERS

CHURCH, FRIMLEY GREEN ROAD, CAMBERLEY SURREY, GU16 7AQ The convention was divided into open and closed sessions. Open Session: The Open Session of the Second General Convention was commenced at 1100 hours. The convention was moderated by Mr Laxmi Ghising, Secretary and Mr Kiran Thebe, Vice Secretary of the Taplejung Samaj UK (TSUK). The open session was chaired by the President of the TSUK, Dr Chandra Laksamba and the Chief Guest of the session was Mr Mohan Gurung, President of Rumjatar samaj UK. The Vice Secretary formally requested the advisors of TSUK to take their seats. He also introduced the representatives from other Nepali organisations and requested them to take their seats as well. The following Advisors were present in the meeting: Mr Prasad Thebe, Mr Khagendra Pathak, Mr Nabin Siwa, Mr Siriprasad Limbu and Mrs Nar Kumari Limbu. Representatives from other Nepali organisations partaking at the opening session were: Mr Mohan Gurung, President of Rumjatar Samaj UK, Mr Dambar Singhok, Terthum Samaj UK, Mr Chandiraj Rai Khotang Samaj UK and Mr Bhuwani Pandhak. Mr Rajendra Khimding, Vice President of the Committee delivered a welcome speech. He also shared his personal views regarding the organisation, its function and activities. Mr Mohan Gurung, Mr Dambar Singhok, Mr Chandiraj Rai and Mr Bhuwani Pandhak wished the success of the General Convention of TSUK. Dr Chandra Laksamba, the President of TSUK, dissolved the Committee following a brief address which paved way to the process of electing the new Executive Committee. In order to advance the process, he announced the names of the Election Committee (Adhakchhya Mandal) Members. Subsequently, the power was handed over to the Election Committee (EC) with the note that the election would be held in a transparent, free and fair manner. The Election Committee consisted of Mr Prasad Thebe (Chair), Mr Ganesh Ijam (Secretary) and members; Ms Nar Kumari Limbu, Mr Nabin Siwa and Mr Khagendra Pathak. This concluded the Open Session.

Closed Session: 1. The Election Committee (EC) Secretary Mr Ganesh Ijam requested the EC Chairperson Mr Prasad Thebe to open the Closed Session. 2. After formal opening of close session by EC Chairperson, the EC Secretary requested outgoing Secretary Mr Laxmi Ghising to present the progress report of the society. The outgoing Secretary Mr Laxmi Ghising presented the progress report of the society. report, he mainly highlighted the following issue as a matter of importance: Road Traffic Accident (RTA) Ms Bishnu Subba, member of the society was involved in a RTA on 12 November 2009. A Brief Background Ms Bishnu Subba was injured in a hit and run accident on the date given above. She approached the society for assistance and guidance for justice in early 2010. The Committee requested the Societys Legal Advisor Mr Jayendra Limbu to investigate the case. In the meantime, Mr Uttam Prasad Rai volunteered to assist/help Ms Bishnu Subba. On agreement of Ms Bishnu Subba, the Executive Committees meeting decided to nominate Mr Uttam Rai as a Welfare Assistant for Ms Bishnu Subba. Mr Rai is still carrying out the task given by the society. The convention agreed to help/assist Ms Subba and nominated the following persons in addition to Mr Rai. The nominated persons are: Mr Hindu Moktan Mr Khadka Hang Limbu Mr Rajendra Khimding Mr Bhim Bokhim. 3. The (EC) Secretary requested the Treasurer of the Society Mr Kuldeep Shresth to present financial report of the society. The outgoing Assistant Treasurer Mrs Amrita Palungwa presented the financial report of the society on behalf of the Treasurer Mr Kuldeep Shrestha. The convention examined discussed and passed the financial report. 4. Mr Hindu Moktan, Head of the Constitution Department presented the reviewed and amended version constitution of the society as authorised by the Annual General Meeting 2010. After a thorough examination, discussion and analysis, the Second General Convention of the TSUK endorsed the reviewed and amended version of constitution with a reasonable amendment. 5. In accordance with the Constitution of TSUK, the EC Chairperson asked the willing members to submit their names as candidates for the Executive Committee elections and designate the posts as well. Likewise, a new Executive Committee was elected by the general members. The details of the newly elected Executive Committee members are in Annex A to this minute. 6. The formal oath-taking ceremony was carried out by the EC Chair Person, Mr Prasad Thebe. Having completed the process; the Chair Person of the EC asked the President-elect Dr Chandra Laksamba, to say a few words. In response to this request, he thanked the members of the society and the Addkachiya Mandal/Election Committee for running the Closed Session smoothly and handing over the power to the newly elected Executive Committee. He also thanked all Taplejungbasi for making the Second General Convention a grand success. Finally the newly elected President presented the Frimley Declaration. In his

2 The Frimley Declaration states: 1. The Committee will be committed for the welfare of Taplejungbasi residing in the UK. 2. The Committee will be committed to help and facilitate the integration process involving the Nepalese Diasporas in the UK. 3. The Committee will ensure its close involvement with Taplejung District and assist in its efforts towards economic and social progress. 4. The Committee will establish a strong networking with other Nepali organisations based in the UK. 5. The Committee will extend relations with other organisations serving the District which may be inside as well as outside of Nepal. 6. The Committee will maintain close relations with the Local and National level government bodies in the UK and extend similar relations with the government of Nepal. Finally, the Chair Person of the Close Session, Mr Prasad Thebe concluded the Second General Convention by thanking and requesting all Taplejungbsi to keep high image and reputation of the organisation in the days and years ahead.
