Grade 2 Homework (Week 21): Distributed: Friday, February 21st Due: Friday, February 28th

1. Literacy: Read your leveled reading book aloud to your parents for 15-20 minutes per night. Remember to fill out your reading log. Turn in your Reading Log on Friday. 2. Spelling: Go to the Spelling City Website at: http://www.spellingcity.com/grade2bifs/ Then click on your Spelling List. Try one activity per night. There will be a spelling quiz on Friday. 3. Mad Minutes Ask your mom or dad to copy the subtraction worksheets which your teacher gave you before the winter break. Practice a different Mad Minute sheet about 3-4 nights per week depending on how much or how little practice you need. Be prepared for a 1 minute quiz on Thursday or Friday of every week. 4. Letter Writing Week: for your homework this week, we would like you to write the following card, letter and email: a) Goodbye card for Diego: Diegos last day is Tuesday, March 4th. Please write a kind goodbye card to him and telling about your best or favorite memories of him. This should be at least 4 sentences long. Draw a picture on the front cover of your card. b) Letter to a classmate: We will pull names from a hat, and we would like you to write a 4-8 sentence letter to one of your classmates telling them about your weekend, week, days at school and asking them questions about themselves. c) Email to a teacher: Send an email to Mr. Heere (sheere@bifskorea.org) or Mrs. Waldman (swaldman@bifskorea.org) about what you have learned about Energy so far in this unit. Think about our electricity experiments, electric circuits, solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectricity and natural resources. The email type letter should be at least 6 sentences long. All letters should include a greeting (Dear .), body with paragraphing, closing (Sincerely, Yours truly, Best regards, Your friend, etc.), and your name or signature. Please write neat and detailed sentences. Optional Bonus Homework:
Literacy: Type an email to Mr. Webb (bwebb@bifskorea.org) telling him about what your learned from his lessons this year and how you appreciate the fun activities that he led with you. This should be 6 sentences or more and should include the letter elements listed above. Math/Spelling: If A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, D = 4, E = 5, and so on Find the total value of each one of your spelling words. Show your work. Basic Example: DAD = 4 + 1 + 4 = 9 Math: Create a Math Addition Strategies Video showing (and teaching) one or some of your favorite 2-digit or 3-digit addition strategies that you have learned in class: regrouping, combining groups, counting on, and compensating (also called adjusting). Weebly websites: Add new entries to your personal or fun page using the following ideas: video clips, audio clips, photos, slideshows, journal entries, poems, letters, stories, etc.
