INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES / STUDENT OUTCOMES Students will be able to categorize and diagram the different lifestyle aspects of penguins using Kidspiration software. Students will be able to explain the world of penguins by developing their own web design to present information. WV CSOs SC.0.4.2.02 SC.0.4.3.01 21C.O.3-4.1.TT4

MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK Overall Time- 90 minute lesson Time Frame- 5 minute teacher review and introduction 15 minute teacher demonstration 50 minute student group activity 15 minute review 5 minute closure STRATEGIES Teacher led discussion, student group activity, guided instruction, cooperative groups, project/inquiry learning. DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION / ADAPTATIONS / INTERVENTIONS I will strategically place students in groups where if any student has trouble in any area they can get help from group members. PROCEDURES Introduction / Lesson Set I will first touch on what we have already learned about penguins and their habitats from reading Mr. Poppers Penguins and the interactive PowerPoint presentations. We have already used Kidspiration but I will show them what we will do with the penguins on this program. I will show them an example of a Kidspiration diagram I made up for them to work from. Body & Transitions Teacher will introduce the current lesson to the classroom after reviewing what we already have learned on the subject Teacher will show demonstration of what is expected of the students after completing the days activity Teacher will put students in groups

Students will research all about the lives of penguins, pinpointing the following topics: o Location o Diet o Habitat o Lifespan o Physical Characteristics o One Interesting Fact Students will take notes as they research in order to have information to put into chart form Students will pull up Kidspiration program on their groups computer and get comfortable using it Students will begin to assemble web designs on the information they have already gathered from research Once finished with the web design, teacher will review the work that has been completed to make sure it is appropriate Students will save their work to their group folders and submit assignment to teacher electronically Teacher will wrap up lesson and review what students learned after completing their web designs Teacher will close lesson and move students back to their regular seats to transition to next lesson Closure Teacher will review what the students have gathered from todays lesson and how they arranged it into their web design. Class will review reasoning behind some of the designs that were made and how they were able to make connections between the aspects of the lives of penguins. Teacher will review reasons why they completed this lesson and what they should have taken from the work they completed. ASSESSMENT Diagnostic Teacher will assess what students already know about penguins and about Kidspiration software by verbal questioning. Formative Teacher will monitor student progress and question students on what they have found and how they have arranged their information and why they organized the information the way they did. Summative Teacher will ask students what they have learned about using the Kidspiration software and how their knowledge has expanded in relation to penguins from previous lesson by verbal questioning. MATERIALS Students will use computers in the lab and Kidspiration software.
