I started the project knowing the area I would cover would be WWII.

It was a subject I knew well, and we had just covered it in history. With lots of content to work with, I knew research wouldnt be difficult. Several days into the project I decided to delve into the United States position in the war and whether or not they should have entered, as they had many rights to protect and responsibilities to uphold. While I did find various photos and numerous quotes, I decided to use books to back up my thesis. These ranged from V was for Victory, a book that described all the U. S. actions in the war, to books like Threshold of War that described Americas politics and the Japanese-American internment dilemma. I also found an interview on Star Trek actor George Takei, in which he describes being in the internment camps as a young boy with his family. I was set on creating a website because I have had some experience with website design, and am using weebly, a website designer, to make my project. In designing the site, I divided my work into several sections. First I made a page for the time period shortly before WWII, during the Axis conquest. Then I created one for how America entered the war. Third was a page for the results of the war

and whether or not America could have prevented some casualties. Finally I had a page for the Japanese-Americans and the violation of their rights. America was just exiting the Great Depression, and the last thing it wanted was to enter another war. They had adopted the way of isolationism and refused to go near the fighting. Their responsibility was to help their allies, such as Poland or France, however, so they stepped into the war by sending supplies. This was decent of America, but not sufficient, as the Axis powers were quickly conquering territory. Soon we would not be so enthusiastic to avoid conflict. On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese fleet. The United States quickly retaliated and declared war on the Axis, thus entering the second Great War. While all this was going on, many peoples rights would be trampled on. As a symbol of its distrust for the Japanese living within the country, the government rounded them up and put them in internment camps. This was ironic because the only Japanese spies in America werent Japanese. The Jews rights along with others in Europe were also ignored by the Nazis, and when they came to America pleading for aid or shelter, they were rejected and sent back home. Many died in concentration camps that America could have helped. In the end, the Japanese-Americans freedoms were restored, and many of them

relocated back to their original homes, the Jews and others in concentration camps were saved, and America sent troops to Europe and the Pacific to help end the war, strengthening their relations with the Allies. We became more independent, but also maintained a strong connection with the rest of the world. Overall, whether or not America should have entered the war sooner or waited longer is still up for question. Would whatever we choose protect Americas rights? Every nation in the world has the right to defend itself and to protect its citizenry. This quote by Lance Winslow applies to the U.S. and its right to defend itself, but this quote should also be applied to other nations. If their governments cant defend themselves or rely on others, then we should aid them. This project showed me many rights of which must be protected and responsibilities to be held, especially in times of war.
