Colonial Times Newspaper Project February 4-17


Complete the following reading work in your Social Studies book on the 13 Colonies: Read pgs. 224-227: Answer numbers 1-4 on pg. 227. Use complete sentences! Read pgs. 228-233: Answer numbers 1-5 on pg. 233. Use complete sentences! Read pgs. 234-241: Answer numbers 1-4 on pg. 241. Use complete sentences! Split your news team up giving each member of the team a different job to do for the paper: 1) Editorial: Write a letter to the paper explaining why people should move to the colonies you are studying. (at least 150 words) 2) Advertising: Create at least 3 advertisements for goods or services people during Colonial times might need or want. (Use color, words, and pictures to sell it!) 3) Photographer: Draw or find at least 3 pictures (photographs) to include in the newspaper. Write a two-sentence caption for each picture. 4) Economist: Write a summary of the economy of the colonies you are studying. (Pgs. 228-233 in you book will be helpful.) REMEMBER: who, what, when, where, and why important (at least 100 words) 5) Geographer: Write an article that summarizers the geography of the colonies you are studying. What kind of land was there? Include a labeled picture of a map of your colonies. Label each colony. 6) Daily Life: You are the daily columnist for the paper that writes about a typical day in the colonies you are studying. What does your day look like? Who do you encounter? What do you eat? (at least 150 words) 7) Biographer: You will research one person that had a large role in colonizing this particular area. Include name, date of birth and death, how they contributed to this area, and two other interesting facts about him. (at least 100 words) You might need more information than the book provides. You can use encyclopedias or valid online sources to help you complete your job. Please keep track of your sources on the source sheet. The paper will be printed on Monday, February 17. You will have time in class the week of February 3 and February 11 to complete your job. However, whatever is not completed in class will need to be done as homework over the weekend of February 14. Use your time wisely!
