Day 1 ART Library Day 2 PE Day 3 MUSIC Day 4 IT Library Day5 ART

Things to look out for this coming week: -International Day on Thursday the 27th February -Newsletter and payment for our field trip to Al Tamimi Stables. Please see the document on the Weebly that explains what we will be doing on the day. -Remember shoe boxes for the Pyramid display. -Please note that Sunday the 2nd of March is a PD day for teachers so there is no school.
Firstly, we would like to share a highlight from last week when the children creatively used their imaginations to role play the lives of Ancient Egyptian women, soldiers and pharaohs. Great fun was had by all as they had to act out the events of each day in order by using hand-made props and actions. Children were able to compare it to their personal day timelines that they made in Maths this week. In Language this week we will go on a journey down the Nile River where we will learn about the important role the Nile River played in shaping the lives and society of Ancient Egypt. Children will create displays to represent how the Nile provided the Ancient Egyptians with food transportation and building materials. We will continue to develop these for our display on International day. Children will also make posters using nouns to describe farming methods, the products the Egyptians made and the people that would have used them. In writing we will recount our weekend news by using time connectives to order and sequence the events i.e. first, next, after that, then, last and finally. We will also focus on connecting sentences with and, so and because. Children will use and apply the capital letter E to the names of people and places in a sentence. This week will be a Grammar focus week where children will work in differentiated groups using nouns for people, places, animals and things. Children will also focus on applying capital letters, punctuation and using adjectives to describe nouns. Last they will write a story about the River Nile.

We will be learning about r controlled vowels in phonics this week, when a vowel is followed by an r, the r changes the sound that the vowel makes. Children will learn that r is called bossy r because the r bosses the vowel to make a new sound. When the a is followed by r, it makes the sound you hear in bar or car. When the o is followed by the r, it makes the sound you hear in the word corn. The ir, ur and er make the same sound /er/ as in the words bird, fur and her. In Guided Reading children will read bossy r words in a passage, sort r words into ir, er, ur, they will also make a craft and play an Egyptian memory game. In Mathematics children will have differentiated activities working with number facts. Children will learn about fact power and how it is like reading and that it is easier to recognize number facts automatically. They will also learn about turn-around facts which is when the same two numbers are added, but not in the same order. Children will also recognize number patters and use 10 frames to make 10 by adding to the nearest 10. This week in the UOI Where We Are in Place and Time we will be going on a journey along the Nile River. Children will learn about the importance of the River Nile and how ancient Egyptians relied on it for survival. Children will create displays and write posters using nouns which we will display at the International Day on Thursday the 27th February. We will also create a Pyramid for the display. Please remember to bring in your shoe box by Tuesday. Other Reminders: We have planned our next field trip and we will be going to the Al Tamimi stables where children will learn about modern farming and horses which we will relate to the Ancient Egyptian uses for horses and farming. The entrance fee per child is 65 AED and we will confirm the bus amount tomorrow. Please see the document detailing all the activities and details about the farm. We will send an email and letter with the exact amount by Monday. Enjoy your week from the Grade 1 Team
