Running head: Kristy Snell SLCO100. ASS2b: REFLECTION ON THE GROUP TASK The importance and value of collaborative work involves communication, dedication, patience, and understanding in order to be effective in an online environment. The objective: to decide, design and present an informative online presentation. Methods of communication, delegation of research, decision making, and participation from individuals, implications of technical issues and appropriate deadlines all contributed to the completion of producing the online informational resource. I took initiative sending an introductory email and asking how do you all want to get in touch and posted on the Group three wiki, on April 10th 2013. A lack of effort to communicate from the group using the wiki was disappointing. Only Abdar and Lisa responded to the email at this point. I found this to be challenging when trying to get in contact with the group. Later I found it rewarding when there was a partial response and progression was occurring. Abdar and I decided to become friends on the social networking site Facebook to see if it would benefit our communication. As Abdar and I were the only group members to have Facebook, we decided our best form of communication was email and the group wiki. I emailed everyone in the group in regarding the due date for an evaluation of an online presentation tool to be used, and to have chosen our topic to research by April 17th, 2013. I delegated a tool from the week seven readings to each member, to be researched and evaluated using week six values list. We posted our findings on the Group three collaborate wiki and also via email. Email became our main form of communication as Abdar and Edward found the wiki page difficult to use as there were no notifications when someone had edited the wiki. As a group (without Jaclyns input- as we still hadnt had any correspondence) we held a vote for the best presentation tool. Prezi won unanimously due to the wow factor (as described by Abdar),

Running head: Kristy Snell SLCO100. ASS2b: REFLECTION ON THE GROUP TASK features, design layouts, ease of navigation and the introduction to Prezi video also contributed. Abdar and I conversed about the possible use of Prezi in other areas of studies and in our workplace. Depending on the contents to be displayed the selection of a publishing tool would naturally vary, to suit the specific needs and requirements of that area.

There were numerous emails involving Lisa, Abdar and I; posts on the wiki page from Abdar, Edward and I in regards to ideas for the topic of interest to be researched. We decided using a voting system that the major topic would be fishing. Subtopics being: fly fishing, deep sea fishing, trawling and angling. We created bait, equipment, techniques and fish caught themes to coincide with the sub topics. This decision was made without Jaclyns input. By April 30th, 2013 we were well underway in our research of our individual allocated sub topics and themes related to fishing.

Lisa created the Prezi for group three. Abdar, Edward, Lisa and I began experimenting with the available tools Prezi had to offer. I created a due date for the draft of information to be published to the Prezi page by May 6th, 2013, encouraging the group to stay focused. Jaclyn made contact on May 3rd, 2013 using Group three wiki and email, this being the first and only contact we had. I re-emailed the link to Jaclyn for the Prezi and a list of her responsibilities. The Prezi page was starting to come together, with Abdar, Edward, Lisa and I adding our information and altering the design of the page. Complications arose on May 6th, 2013 as we were unable to access the Prezi- finding it completely blank, setting in motion a series of confused and questioning emails back and forth to all group members. I contacted Prezi support and Lisa sifted through her history and the page was miraculously up and running by the next day. The

Running head: Kristy Snell SLCO100. ASS2b: REFLECTION ON THE GROUP TASK implications could have been extremely detrimental at this point as there had been extensive work and effort put into the page.

A checklist devised by myself and agreed upon, was used to thoroughly examine and review the Prezi page before entering the online world. Lisa suggested the group meet on the Prezi page at 10:00 am to ensure spelling, layout and grammar was correct. Once these tasks were performed the Prezi page was available to the public online.

Collaborative work in the online environment is engaging, rewarding, practical, efficient and effective when the team all shares the same views and work ethics. To be productive collaboratively involves everyone contributing, sharing ideas, sharing the work load, helping each other when difficulties occur, productive time management skills, conflict resolution and delegation and completion of tasks. The benefits produced from sharing a diverse range of skills and knowledge offer endless possibilities for assimilation and accommodation regarding information and knowledge to be gained and used by all involved.
