Environmental Issues 7 Grade Research Project

This will cover Chapter 3 in the Ecology and Environment Textbook, pages 82-123. For this project, you will select a current Environmental Issue affecting our world. The purpose is to learn and share what you learn about an issue which affects the lives of living organisms throughout the world. You will make a power point presentation to your classmates and maybe other classes. You will focus on the following points in your presentation: A) What the issue is; the source of the issue; B) Why it is an issue; C) Location of the issue, who and what does it affect; D) How the issue is being addressed; the costs and benefits in dealing with the issue; E) Who are the stakeholders; F) What your position is on the issue, do you favor what is being done or not (Present F on the slide and provide a position paper on why you favor or disagree with what is being done, should be at least one page long listing at least 3 details of support, points of this paper should be on the slide but not word for word) G) Title Page and the presenters name(s) H) Bibliography citing at least two sources of information (No Wikapedia or Weebly will be accepted) I) PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! Use pictures from the internet or add drawings to present your issue. Your presentation will be graded based on the completed product along with the bibliography and title/name page. Work on your presentation so you know it like the back of your hand. You will be given three to four classes of research time in the lab to prepare your presentation and one to two class periods in the room to work on it. A total of 125 points will be awarded on this project, 100 for the presentation and 25 for the position paper. The grade breakdown is as follows: Presentation 72% Visual breakdown to include the bullet points A-F listed above with oral support AND pictures directed towards your audience. USE NOTECARDS to speak to audience, do not read off the board. Timing will also be included, at least 3 minutes long but less than 15 please. Points deducted if time not met or talking to the board. Title and Bibliography 8% One slide with bibliography listed of at least two sources cited. First slide should have the title of the environmental issue and your name(s). Position Paper 20% A typewritten position paper with your stance on what is being done with your environmental issue to include at least three details of support for your position. Deductions Keep in mind I will deduct points for any inattentiveness or talking during the presentations OR talking to the board during your presentation OR time not being met. Project assigned on February 28th, Presentations will begin on Monday, March 10th and continue until completed.
