Sociologist: The Great Depression

The Great Depression was a devastating event that caused many families to struggle. There were four concrete causes that led to this great struggle. One specific result the causes were migrant workers across America. The causes of the Great Depression lead to effects that included poverty, struggle, and migration. The Great Depression was solely a period of hardship that caused struggle for all of America. Not only did the middle class suffer but politicians and upper class people suffered also. It was a long ten years of living in different conditions starting in 1929 and ending in 1939. The four main causes of the Great Depression were the crash of the stock market, bank failures, decrease in purchasing goods, and the Dust Bowl. The most notorious cause was the crash of the stock market which happened when everyone invested their money in stocks which ended up corrupting and everyone who invested money in the stocks lost their money for good. Then came the bank failures which was when the banks started to crash due to not being properly insured. The lack of money then lead to a lack of buying goods like clothing and nonessential items. The Dust Bowl was also a big factor and it was the time where crops failed to grow and the dirt then turned to dust. These factors played into the formation of migrant workers. The Great Depression also caused many people to lose their jobs where they lived. Several people went to different states to find jobs to earn money and provide for their families. The types of jobs that were available were not office jobs but instead hard labor jobs. Migrant workers would often harvest crops or work in factories. Migrant workers still exist today. The

The need for workers in factories or on farms affects who occupies those types of jobs. The Great Depression caused a lot of effects that influence Americas actions today. Ever since the stock market crash and the other causes of the Great Depression Americas economy has not fully recovered and is still, to this day, trying to recover. Although the Great Depression was rough, it strengthened America. America, generally speaking, has learned from the mistake that was the Great Depression. The lesson the America learned was to take better care of the economy and itself and to take better strides to help citizens in need.
