The 12 Nidanas or links in the chain of dependent origination describe the cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth. It begins with ignorance, which leads to karmic formations and consciousness. Consciousness results in name and form, the six senses, contact with objects, and feelings of pleasure, pain or indifference. Feeling leads to craving, which causes grasping or attachment. Grasping leads to becoming, birth, aging, sickness, death and the continuation of the cycle of dependent origination.
