Psalm 119

In Psalm 119, there are at least 8 synonyms used for the

Word of God. It is helpful to note the distinctions,
although they are used interchangeably.
1. Law (25 times) “torah” which means instruction,
teaching

2. Word (20 times) revelation of truth (i.e. 10

commandments are 10 words from God)
3. Sayings (19 times) an utterance of a truth
statement
carrying the weight of God [sometimes translated
promise].

4. Commandments (21 times) a definite divine order

5. Statutes (21 times) an inscribed or decreed law
[sometimes translated decrees]

6. Judgments (19 times) a binding judicial decision,

sentence, decree or law [sometimes translated
ordinances]
7. Precepts (21 times) a specific mandate, injunction
or
commands; describing right conduct; [may also
mean a
“principle”].

8. Testimonies (22 times) a confirmed, verified or

attested
ordinance or law
