1. A car engine with a power output of 70 kW has a thermal efficiency of 28 percent. Determine the rate of fuel consumption if the heating value of the fuel is 45,000 kJ/kg. (10 marks) 2. A household refrigerator with a COP of 1.5 removes heat from a refrigerated space at a rate of 60 kJ/min. Determine (a) the electric power consumed by the refrigerator and (b) the rate of heat transfer to the kitchen air. (10 marks) 3. A heat pump used to heat a house runs about one-third of the time. The house is losing heat t an average rate of 22,000 kJ/h. If the COP of the heat pump is 3.5, determine the power of the heat pump draws when running. (10 marks) (Total: 30 marks)
