Meeting Minutes! Wed, Feb 19, 2014 at 1730 ! Fresno, CA ! Meeting called to order at 1739.! In attendance: Adrienne Guirguis, Christine Staricka (via phone), Patty Reis, Elida Silva (via phone), Brandi Muro ! Minutes from January meeting tabled due to low attendance. Will be emailed to membership again by Secretary.! Old Business! Baby Cafe - Grand Opening scheduled for Fri March 7. Volunteer training to be held on mon Feb 24 from 0930-1130; open to all. ! Update on Incorporation of CVLA by State of CA. Articles of incorporation have been received and were shown to members. Federal application still pending. CVLA still requires the services of an attorney to be kept on retainer for legal issues. Members asked to provide any references or contacts who might be

willing to donate their services. None mentioned at this time.!

Membership Renewal Date for current members discussed: members present voted that renewal date shall be April 1, 2014. Individuals who become members prior to that date will renew on April 1, 2015. Membership fee remains at $45 annually.!

Fundraising: response from Famous Dave's was not received. Brandi suggested we coordinate with Fresno-based members as they also have a Fresno location. !

Kaiser Permanente grant application - still pending reply.! New Business:! 4/26 WarmLine Annual Fundraiser Dinner - Patty reports that if CVLA solicits donations for Silent Auction, proceeds will go to CVLA. Ideas for auction items were discussed: Magic Mountain tickets, local "celebrity" dinners, holiday or birthday parties, tickets for seats with a view of BC Fireworks show, ride-along with KC Sheriff's Dept, gift certicate for skydiving. A posterboard representing the auction item(s) should be prepared to assist bidders with information about the item.!

! MSW Lactation Support Center may be able to donate a basket of lactation-related items. ! ! Elida will look into auctioning a weekend at her private cabin.! ! Planet Bambini may be interested in donating a basket.! Deadline for auction items is 3/31. !

June 27 Seminar! ! Review of 1/18 seminar; attendee evaluations were overwhelmingly positive and Elida stated that she liked it a lot. ! ! Christine & Adrienne recommended that a seminar committee be appointed to prevent all tasks from being required of one or two people. Members agreed.! ! Christine will contact potential speakers. Brandi will assist with arranging for CEU's and other educational units. Suzanne Chernabaeff, RN, IBCLC will be contacted to request she contact her network of physicians to invite to seminar. ! ! Price of seminar to be based on speaker fees/ costs; member discount will be available and membership deal will be offered! ! Objective- 50 attendees! ! Challenge- Each CVLA member to bring at least 1 attendee!

! March 10 - distribution of electronic yer in pdf format for "Save the Date." Brandi and Elida to assist with wide distribution throughout Central Valley. !

Plans for Annual Fundraiser! ! Fri, Aug 1, 2014! ! to coincide with World Breastfeeding Week! ! 2014 theme is "Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for LIFE!"! ! Elida will research potential locations in Tulare and solicit donations for auction! ! Could be a 50/50 Rafe, Casino Night, hire a VIP speaker like Hoffman Hospice does (non-bf related, i.e Marcus Luttrell, Tim Tebow, etc.)! Adrienne to research speakers!

Other WBW plans: last year Kings County received a Proclamation from City, Bakerseld WIC hosted a Walk, a local Big Latch-On event was held ! ! Members agree all of those should continue! ! Christine to coordinate Big Latch-On via partnership with Planet Bambini!

Application for charter with US Lactation Consultant Association is completed; Patty to provide check for $99 fee and Adrienne will submit. Charter will provide much more visibility for CVLA; only 3 charters in all of CA. !

Updates from members who attended CA Breastfeeding Summit:! ! per Adrienne, CVLA has achieved visibility among lactation eld within CA, partly due to online/social media presence! ! per Elida, the presentations were excellent and are now available to download for free on California Breastfeeding Coalition website. ! ! Overall impression given was that great progress has been made statewide! ! Adrienne mentioned that many great projects and achievements were described but she still would like to know how people are getting collaboration from hospital admins and physicians!

3 Committees are Needed for CVLA to function efciently! Fundraising Committee! Publicity/Marketing/Membership/Annual Dinner! Education/Webinars/Seminars!

Christine will email other 3 CA USLCA charters for insight into their mechanisms of progress! Adrienne suggested that CVLA have items made with CVLA name and logo for marketing purposes. Patty reported that even if items are sold, CVLA is not likely to make money on such a venture. Members in

attendance agreed that it would be a good publicity function. Adrienne to research costs.!
