Creating Invitations
Scope Description
The scope map shows an overview of what the instructor will be teaching. The instructor will display a video tutorial which will go through the lesson of creating an invitation.

Sequencing
The difficulty level of sequencing will be used to teach this lesson. The instructor will go over a few things then start to teach the less difficult part of the lesson first to make sure the learner understands before the more difficult material of the lesson is taught. The instructor will have callouts after each section of the video tutorial to make sure the learner is keeping up before moving on into the next part.
4

Reading Level
The reading level is seventh grade and up. This particular level was chosen because this lesson will focus on adult learners.

Motivation
Attention: The instructor will catch the attention of the learners by asking questions, giving
examples, and getting the learner involved in the lesson so they do not become bored and stop paying attention.

Relevance: This information will be relevant to my audience because it will appeal to their
creativity. This information can help learners build creativity and show more of their interest and ideas.

Instructional Strategies
The type of content presented will be procedures and it will be presented in the form of steps. Like concepts, the performance of a procedure can take the form of recall or application. In this case it takes the form of recall, which requires the learner to list or describe the steps of the procedure. The learner will be given a task (creating an invitation) and will explain how they went about creating it.

Lesson Format
Focus Learners
At the beginning of the lesson the instructor asked if anyone had ever created their own unique invitation.

Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning

5

The learner will be given lesson instructions and will watch a video tutorial on the lesson. Then the learner will be given practice instructions to complete the lesson.

Give Advanced Organizer

The next part of the video explains the lesson. What the lesson will be about. What the learner will be doing. What invitations should look like.

(guided practice) 3. Steps a. The instructor gives the learner the instructions and steps needed to create an invitation. (independent practice)

Provide & Evaluate Guided Practice

The guided practice will be a part of the video tutorial. The learner will have to follow along with the video in order to complete the practice.

Provide & Evaluate Independent Practice

Media Design
Types of Media
The Video Tutorial will be used as a guide to the learner as the instructor teaches the lesson. The PowerPoint slides used in the video consist of four slides, the title slide, two example slides, and the credits slide.

Layout

The example slides used in the video tutorial are located at the beginning of the video to show the learner some examples of invitations. The title of the video is located after the example slides in the Video Tutorial so the learner will know what the video is about. Graphics are located on the title slide and the credits slide. On the title slide the graphic is in the middle of the slide to grab the learners attention. On the credit slide the graphic is in the bottom left corner so the learner can see it but it doesnt take away from the text. The body text for the title slide is located toward the bottom of the slide so it doesnt take away from the graphic. The body text on the credits slide is located in the middle of the slide so the learner can focus more on the text than the graphic. There are callouts located between sections in the video. The credits slide used in the video tutorial is located at the end of the video.

Color
The PowerPoint slides used have a white background with purple graphics. These colors were chosen to reflect the color of the Adobe InDesign software.

Typography

Usability
Overview
The materials tested include the Lesson Instructions, the Video Tutorial, Learning Skills, Use Your Knowledge, and Creativity. These materials were fully complete when they were tested. The testing was computer based. The software used for testing was Mozilla Firefox (internet browser), Microsoft Word 2010, and Adobe InDesign CS5. The hardware used for testing

included a computer system and individual headphones. As the participants interacted with the materials neither of them looked confused or uncertain. The feedback received was written down on paper or typed.

Participants
The participants were two college students. There was a male and a female. They both currently attend Mississippi State University. They both major in Information Technology Services. Both participants stated that they have used Adobe InDesign to make invitations and would use this software to make invitations in the future. Both participants are upperclassmen and neither was a subject material expert. These two participants target the audience this course is designed for.
