LESSON PLAN OBJECTIVES AND LIFE SKILLS

Skill Development 1. Basic Skill Instruction Students will use the task cards and pictures at each station in order to learn how to properly perform the given exercises and lifts at each station. Some stations may have multiple exercises that can be performed. 2. Application of Skills Students will apply the learned technique and safety procedures to each lift. They will perform a variety of different lifts throughout the entire fitness room. 3. 4. Fitness Benefits Skill Related Fitness Health Related Fitness Life Skills 5. Effort 6. Goal Setting Students will set goals in the number of sets and reps they can complete for each given exercise. 7. Communication Students will communicate with each other when performing different exercises by using the checklists to make sure the exercises are being performed correctly and safely.

Introduction Total time: 5 Minutes Upon entering the gym, students will get a pedometer and set it to zero. Lesson Objective(s): Students will be introduced to the location of different muscles, as well as exercises that target those muscles Planned Transitions: Students will be split into two groups: Group One Fitness Room (continue with this lesson plan) Group Two Multi-Purpose Room (see lesson plan five)

Assessment

Students should report to their squad lines upon entering class

Students will be assessed through their pedometer at the end of the class period

Hamstrings, Gluteus Maximus, Quadriceps, Calf Muscles, Abdominal Muscles, Pectoralis Major, Triceps, and Biceps

Students will be assessed by the completion of their muscle and exercise guidance at the end of today, and next class period

Are they staying on task/not messing around? Are they using proper form at each lift? Students will also be completing their muscular/exercise worksheets throughout this time period.

Students will then partner up and begin rotating throughout All stations Planned Transition: Cool down by walking back to the gym Cool-down Total time: 1 minute

Formations / Assessment Strategy

Turn in pedometers and muscle/exercise worksheets Write the pedometer number on worksheet beforeStudents will write their pedometer number on their muscle/exercise worksheets to receive a grade for their activity level today. turning in Remind students to bring a pencil next class Assessments: Throughout this lesson, students will be assessed throughout a variety of ways. Students will be assessed through their pedometer at the end of this lesson. Their overall goal is to see how many steps they can get throughout the entire fitness unit Students will be assessed through observation in the fitness room. Are they following safety protocols? Are they staying on task? Are they lifting appropriate weight? Are they using proper form and technique for each lift and exercise? Students will be assessed by their completion of the muscle/exercise worksheet. This will show me that they understand what exercises target what muscles. This is important because they will be tested on this information on the unit exam. Equipment needs Pedometers, Writing Utensils, Muscle/Exercise Worksheet, Fitness Room Equipment (already in place), Weight Task Cards, Music Safety Considerations A spotter should be used at each exercise Physical space around individual performing an exercise Using the right form when performing exercises Using appropriate weight when performing exercises
