Initial Analysis Location: U of Miami campus recreation fields Date: 4/12/2013 Analysis: Initial visual inspection shows: Poor turf coverage High concentration of weeds o Especially in worn areas Large areas of bare soil Uneven surface due to wear Fire ants present o This indicates no recent insecticide for fire ants or mole crickets has been applied

Action Steps: Take soil sample to look at soil nutrition levels Get irrigation schedule Develop a high nitrogen fertility program to regrow as much turf as possible Plan Tribute Total application at high rate o This will be done twice in a three week period to bring weed amounts in check Weeds are mature and will be tougher to eliminate Follow up applications will be needed Schedule a Ronstar application, post Tribute Total sprays o Will help ease weed pressure Test for mole crickets and make application as needed

Moving Forward: Develop balanced fertilizer program based on soil test results o Ph must be mid range to accommodate acidic fertilizers that will be used Quick nitrogen fertilizers will tend to be more acidic which will lower Ph into the acidic range If soil Ph lowers below 5.5-6, turf will struggle as nutrients will be unavailable to plant due to acidity levels Use a lime product to raise soil Ph if needed Plan on broad range insecticide application to ensure mole crickets and fire ants will be eliminated
