AP1 Solfge Exam Requirements

Aural Perception 1 Requirements for Solfge examination

1. A prepared piece to sing in solfa. The set piece will be distributed in class and posted on the Aural Perception 1 web site in the last week of classes for the semester.

2. Intervals up to and including P8, ascending or descending, to sing in solfa.

3. Scales (ascending and/or descending): major, minor (3 forms), to sing in solfa and letter names.

4. A rhythm pattern to say with Takadimi syllables or on a neutral syllable (students choice) while either conducting or tapping the beat, as required.

5. A melody to sing at sight in solfa.

6. Arpeggiate triads in close position from a given root note in solfa: major and minor in all positions; dominant 7th in all positions.

7. A harmonic progression of up to four chords to arpeggiate in close position in letter names (specified on AP2 Chord Progression Handout).

Where not specified above, vocabulary is that studied in class during the semester, that is, up to and including Chapter 35 of G. Karpinski, Manual for Ear Training and Sight Singing and Chapter 19 of G. Karpinski and R Kram, Anthology for Sight Singing, as well as worksheets given out in class.
