ASSIGNMENT 2 Valid until 0000Z Monday March 26 2014 Jefferson City, Missouri, KJEF 48 Hour Forecast.

I saw that around Jefferson City, Missouri there were a lot of solid yellow lines. This shows that there is a lot of heat and high pressure moving through. And below that there is a lot of Low pressure moving in. This is all happening right around the Jefferson City airport area so I chose that airport for the assignment.

The 48 hour forecast predicted precipitation in the Jefferson City area and was correct according to the Metars data.

Weather:

The doppler radar images I was able to recover are from Monday March 24 20:19 UTC. The doppler radar images show blue

and green near KJEF or Jefferson City. Since the light green color means that it is really cold air and the brown and light blue are the even colder. I can infer that there was very cold air in those areas. This is the image for Monday March 24, 20:19.

Next I evaluated satellite images and was surprised to find that there is a large cloud mass visible over Jefferson City. It looks moderately dense because there are large areas where the color changes from red orange to yellow to green to light blue. You can barely see the outlines of the state underneath all of the cover in this area too. This made me think that the 48 hour prediction of cold air in this area was very correct.

Reflection
A cold front is the discontinuity at the forward edge of an advancing cold air mass that is displacing warmer air in its path. I really enjoyed learning more about cold fronts are how important they are during this assignment. Cold fronts help our planet so much and they are very important to us. Even though I cant stand the snow and cold weather. It is important and I am realizing that more from this class. With my new knowledge of cold fronts, their effect on weather and warm fronts. I can now know how to spot certain clouds and what they mean. I can spot storms in the making and know as well as explain what is going on. This assignment has taught me how to predict what might happen as well as how to read this images and charts which is very helpful in my life because if I was not able to watch the news, I would be able to go outside and spot and make a good educated guess about the weather or use the resources that I have learned about from this assignment.
