520 Case Study Reflection

The case study that I worked on involved a 6 year old child named Ruby. Ruby was diagnosed with developmental delay and was suspected of having ADHD. Ruby has significant sensory integration and self-regulation issues that resulted in difficulty engaging in occupations. This was due to an inability to properly regulate her system or to perceive/process the sensory information in the environment. I really enjoyed working on this project because this was the first case study assignment that we were assigned in groups. I was looking forward to coming up with goals and creating an intervention and treatment plan for Ruby based on evidence based research. I was also looking forward to working in a group and hearing the different perspectives and opinions of others. However, the group did not work out as well as I had hoped. Many of the group members had different opinions and wouldnt compromise on certain aspects of the project. One of the group members did not do his part of the project and did not show up to a group meeting. The group pulled together and got the project done. We did well on the project, however I learned a lot from working in a group like this. I learned that everyone has to do their share of the work or the group dynamic does not work well. I think it was wrong that the individual relied on the rest of the group to do his part of the project. Overall, I learned a lot about the pediatric population through this project and am looking forward to working with this population in the future.
