Introduction to the library and staff. Moving to and from the classroom to the library quietly and in an orderly group. Library behaviour rules are explained to the students - e.g. no running, no eating, quiet in the library. Library bags required for borrowing books. Story: The Cat in the Hat by Dr Seuss. 'Getting to know you "games are played. Alphabet games can be played eg: sitting down when the first letter of their first name is sung in the alphabet song, Snowman, Snowman wheres your hat. NO borrowing this week. Library rules revision. Picture Book: A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. The Teacher Librarian reads the story book and a discussion follows throughout discussion time all students are encouraged to talk about their enjoyment of the story content, the pictures, and to sound aloud any new words, rhyming word groups or story sounds. Students put in detail and colour a picture of Camilla Cream. Borrowing begins. Students may choose 1 book only from the selection on the Kinder bookshelf. Students are shown how to line up at the Circulation Desk to get their books scanned. Class teachers are asked to collect all students Library Bags and books and send to Library for return or bring tray of books and bags with them to the Library lesson. Explain that we are going to read a book a bit like a street directory. We cannot go forward page by page but need to follow the instructions on the map to read the story. Plot the beetles journey on the map of the tree on IWB. Discussion time. Borrowing.
