Organic farming has been slowly and steadily gaining popularity worldwide.

Many research has been conducted on organic farming methods and it's environmental benefits have been a hotly debated topic. Although there are many criticism from conventional farmers and agricultural industry about organic farming, it has been proven that organic farming can indeed help cure or reduce some of the environmental hazards produced by conventional agro-industry. There is a growing demand for organic food due to the claims that it is safer, more nutritous, and environmentally sustainable production. n Malaysia, organic agro-industry is still in a development phase despite it's potential for mar!et. n the past decade, the demand for organic products among local consumers was limited because organic products are generally more e"pensive than conventionally produced product. There is also a fi"ed perception by local farmers that organic farming is always associated with low productivity, small scale farming, labour intensive and not profitable agro-business. Therefore, they are not motivated to invest e"tra costs in order to comply with #OM$#!im Organi! Malaysia% standards. n short, there is a potential for organic-based agroindustry in Malaysia, but it will ta!e a while before it becomes the mainstream mar!et. &espite the benefits of organic food consumption, the hefty price premium as well as s!eptical consumers who are not altogether convinced whether local organic produce'products labeled as organic can truly be trusted or not remains an obstacle.
