dont distrubing eyesight when using Ophthalmic ointment produce form larger than ophthalmic solution (rps 18th : 1584)

formulation
Each 5 ml of eye drops contains :
Zinc sulfat Naphazolin HCl Acidum boricum Fenil mercuri nitrat API 0,25% 0,1% 2% 0,001% ad 100%

Zinc sulfate
zinc sulfate is used in ophthalmic solutions as an astringent for the temporary relief of discomfort from minor eye irritation; the drug usually is used in combination with a vasoconstrictor for this condition. (AHFS 2004 : 14740)

Naphazoline HCl
solution containing up to 0,1% of naphazoline hydrochloride have been instilled into eye as a conjunctival decongestant. naphazoline has been used as a vasocontrictor with local anaesthetics. (martindale : 1565) eye drop solution naphazoline HCl with concentration 0,1% using as vasocontrictor topikal eye (ansel : 557)

Mechanism of action
Zinc sulfate exhibits astringent and weak antiseptic activity. These effects may result from precipitation of protein by the zinc ion. Zinc sulfate produces mild vasodilation in concentrasions used in ophtalmic preparations; the drug has no decongestant action. Zinc sulfate exhibits mild astringent activity by precipitating protein and clearing mucus.

Phenylmercuric nitrate
phenylmercuric nitrate /acetate in concentration 0,0002% using as subtituen from benzalconium chloride as preparative. Phenylmercuric nitrate have advantage than other mercuric, not presesipitation at ph acid. (handbook of ophthalmic :865) hind and szekely suggest
