Breanne Rowland Fieldwork & Leadership

During my level II fieldwork, I was very fortunate to have a leader as my fieldwork educator. My fieldwork educator was the rehab director of the facility I was placed and was in charge of the rehab department. I had the opportunity to understand the type of work that a leadership position required and was exposed to unique opportunities. My fieldwork educator allowed me to attend different types of meetings that helped me better understand her job. One meeting involved the entire skilled nursing facility staff, with the leaders from each of the departments. Another meeting consisted on a care conference with a patient that I was treating, his wife, and the social worker. I was extremely overwhelmed with the amount of paper work and job requirements my fieldwork educator was obligated to do. Additionally, I had the opportunity to experience a collaborative working team. The rehab department was extremely knowledgeable and efficient in their work. Each team member brought unique skills to the department, as well as leadership abilities. After experiencing the overwhelming job requirements of a rehab director, I was impressed by my fieldwork educators leadership skills and guidance. I felt that she was very personable and passionate about her job, and provided inspiration to the staff members. As a leader, she used her ability to motivate others to work hard and demonstrated good work ethics. It was very evident that she was dedicated to her job as a therapist, an advocate, and a leader. I found working with her to be a very educational experience.
