Big Ideas: Biology is the science of life or living matter in all its forms and phenomena. Category 0: Scientific Process Skills 40% of STAAR questions include some aspect of this Category 1: Cell Structure and Function 11/54 STAAR Questions Category 2: Mechanisms of Genetics 11/54 STAAR Questions Category 3: Biological Evolution and Classification 10/54 STAAR Questions Category 4: Biological Processes and Systems 11/54 STAAR Questions Category 5: Interdependence within Environmental Systems 11/54 STAAR Questions Grading Policy In order to better ensure student success, all students will be regularly assessed using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, assessments, labs, projects, and homework. Your average breaks down as follows: 50% Tests 30% Labs 20% Daily Grade. Late work only has to be accepted within 5 days of the due date for a maximum of an 80%. I have been known to assign mandatory tutorials and/or triage for students struggling to meet expectations.

STUDENT: If I fall behind I will come after school, at lunch, or work with my group to catch up. Regardless if an assignment will be graded, I understand I am responsible to finish all assigned work to avoid triage or Saturday school. I also understand that it is my responsibility to take care of my grades/business before any extracurricular activities. As a student I represent Hays High School and I will work diligently to get my work done inside and outside of school. Parent/Guardian: It is my responsibility as a parent to encourage my son or daughter to be a model student. I will strive to create an atmosphere that is encouraging for my son or daughters success. If I have any issues I will not hesitate to contact Mr. Rae for any guidance that is needed for my son or daughter to be successful inside and outside of the classroom environment. A message from Mr. Rae As a teacher I am responsible for your son or daughters well being inside the school. It is my job and duty to make sure that your child is successful while under my guidance. I will strive to get everything I possibly can out of your child, in order to let them reach their goals in life and school. I will push your child to another level of thinking and create an environment that is strategic for learning and success. I take great passion in my job and hope to touch each and every student that walks through my classroom door. As a teacher and coach, I love to hear what all of my students are up to in their daily life outside of school. I love to commend young adults on different mile stones that they have reached while going through their career.
