Jamar McCalla English 1 1st block Mrs. Knowles 20 March 2014 Troops in Afghanistan The United States is well known for being one of the most powerful states with many foreign policies. An organization was created in Pakistan that launched a devastating attack that destroyed the U.S. World Trade Center located in New York, and the U.S. Pentagon (U.S. military headquarters) in Virginia. President George W. Bush responded to this crisis by gathering its allies to invade Afghanistan where many believe the leader of the organization was being hidden. More than 80,000 service members were deployed to Afghanistan In an effort to dismantle al- Qaeda and eliminate the Taliban from power of its government. During the year of 2011, the founder of the Islamic group that caused the devastating attack on U.S. soil was killed by U.S. Navy seals (Fighting & winning the war in Afghan pg. 1). This was a great victory for U.S., but troops should remain in Afghanistan because it would diminish criminal and terrorist acts, and troops can help enhance Afghanistan security to ensure that such destruction will never happen again. Whiles troops are to remain in Afghanistan; their actions will diminish criminal and terrorist acts within Afghanistan. Since the incident of 9/11, the average amount of terrorist attacks decrease to 16% per year due to the involvement of troops in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. With U.S. troops in Afghanistan, numerous terrorist groups in Pakistan that keep the region

unstable and contribute to the spread of global terrorism will be drawn out with heavy manpower to ensure future security (Fighting & winning the war in Afghan pg.1). Troops that remain in Afghanistan can help enhance their security for better safety. Since the year of 2011, this was the death of Osama Bin Laden; Afghanistan officials have broken down many of these terrorist groups. Instead of leading the war in Afghan, U.S. troops are now able to train and advise Afghan forces to take heed upon their own security for a better future. Ms. Curtis states that We need the people there to know that the United States will remain engaged diplomatically, financially, and militarily for the foreseeable future (Afghan war pg. 2). U.S. international forces in Afghanistan are preparing to hand over responsibility for the security of Afghanistan to the Afghan soldiers and polices by the end of 2014. With Afghanistan ensuring its own security, the United States can reduce its resources and materials for troops to slowly leave Afghanistan with the economy maintaining peace. Many people argue that U.S. troops should withdraw from the war in Afghanistan because their duty in taking down Al-Qaeda has already been finish, its now a war not meant to be bought by the United States. Since the year of 2001 to 2011, the United States has funded more than $27 billion in civil and military aid for Afghanistan, yet their economy has not improved. There has been more than two thousand U.S. troops that have been killed in Afghanistan during hostile actions, explosions, and enemy raids. Thousands of family members and loves are lost during such deployments, but without troops in Afghanistan chaos would spread throughout many countries within that region due to criminal and terrorist activities that state officials cannot handle.

The Afghan army can put up a good fight against the Talibans, but without the U.S. military a lot of problems will occur. If the U.S. military is to remain in Afghanistan then further missions will be carried out to prevent any al-Qaeda groups from regenerating, the security in Afghanistan will be greatly reinforced due to support and aid for the troops. U.S. military has made significant progress since 2001, so why stop now? The United States has come so far with great victories, the United States has helped many nations in need of help, and the United States has military that is always ready to respond to todays crisis. Victory is always imaginable to the United States when refuse to stop fighting.
