JOB DESCRIPTIONS TITLE: Guidance Counselor QUALIFICATIONS: 1. At least three years of successful teaching experience 2.

A valid certificate as a guidance counselor 3. A master's degree, or its equivalent, representing intensive course work in the principles and practice of educational guidance; educational testing and measurement; counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learning. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning. 2. Aids students in course and subject selection (Scheduling 7-12 general ed. students). 3. Maintains student records. 4. Coordinates student mentoring and cadet teaching programs. 5. Meets regularly with juniors and seniors for occupational and educational planning. 6. Teaches and/or facilitates middle school careers/guidance class. 7. Provides student information to colleges and potential employers. 8. Plans guidance field trips to school, colleges, and industry for interested students. 9. Writes recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships. 10. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities. 11. Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations. 12. Maintains a career and educational reference center. 13. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices. 14. Organizes, administers, and interprets standardized testing in grades 7-12. 15. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to personal/social, education, or occupational concerns. 17. Confers with parents, alumni, and community. 18. Interprets the guidance program to the community. 19. Provides in-service training in guidance for teachers. 20. Work with building principal to provide an alternative placement of educational services for students. 21. Coordinates recruiter visits to the school (college, military, business). 22. Coordinates Advisor-Advisee program and support/facilitates at-risk program. Including Study Tables, E2020 Classes, etc 23. Corresponds with outside school districts for students who are new, transfer, openenrolled in-out, etc. 24. Responsible for graduation requirements/ceremonial duties. 25. Plans and facilitates Graduation, Baccalaureate, and Senior Awards Night. 26. Facilitates PLAN and ASVAB testing. 27. Monitors NCAA requirements for potential college student-athletes. 28. Monitors and maintains student transcripts and graduation requirements. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year; salary and work year to be according to the current schedule.!
