I.

General The safety of students and staff is the primary concern of the Inver Grove Heights Community Schools when a lockdown has been initiated. The District is committed to the safety and education of all of our students and to clearly communicate with parents when these safety issues arise.

II.

Elementary Buildings A. B. Call 911 for all emergencies. The Superintendent will be notified when any lockdowns other than drills are conducted. The Superintendent will then notify their Executive Assistant and the Communications Coordinator. The information will be placed on the specific school website by the Communications Coordinator and taken down after two days. The Superintendent will then be notified of any missing students, transportation accidents, damage to buildings, power outages, gas leaks, or any other significant events in the school buildings. In the event of a lockdown due to an event that may endanger students or staff (Ex: intruder to the building, weapon, police action in the community near the school, etc.), the Superintendent will consult with the Communications Coordinator regarding the use of the calling system in addition to any other communication for more immediate communication with parents. Calls are placed from the district office. Parent letters will be sent out after any unplanned lockdown not issued as a drill, including medical emergencies that require paramedics or that cause a major disruption in the building.
