WHY I WANT TO TEACH

INTASC STANDARD, DESCRIPTION, AND RATIONALE


Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice - The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Brief Description I chose number 9 because it has to deal with using evidence to evaluate his/her practice and the effects of his/her choices and actions on others. As well as it mentioning adapting practice to meet the needs of each learner. Rationale Adapting to meet the needs of each learner works hand in hand with becoming a special education teacher. Each student will be very different from the next and I will have to be able to help each one in their own way. Also evidence from my past will help evaluate how I will fit into the role of a special education teacher and how as a teacher I can impact in a good way other people too.

19 years old Neighbor with Down Syndrome Best Buddies for 3 years Capernaum for 2 years Teaching was a different dream for me

WHY DO I WANT TO TEACH?


I wanted to in 8th grade.

I was not sure on which subject until sophomore year


Best Buddies and other classes helped center my focus on wanting to become a special education teacher.

I would like my students to be a life skills room range of students Excited group of high schoolers

Growing up in a very safe community I would like to expand and one day be in a urban community If I could I would like to return to a suburban community

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROFESSIONS


I plan on doing a lot for the community I teach in. I would like to be a part of clubs and potentially coach where I can use my teaching skills outside of school and inside.

Students come first

FINAL GOAL
Be a high school level special education teacher as well as coach a school sport either Baseball or Soccer. Teach in a suburban school district Leave some sort of effect when I retire.

Personal Statement
I want to be a teacher who was known for doing the right thing, was well respected, and changed for better when I retire.
