SO LETS REVIEW FRACTIONS/DECIMALS/PER CENTS

MINDS ON:

Where Would You Use Fractions, Decimals and Per cents In Real Life?

SOME THOUGHTS:
decimals - money ($2.20), fractions - time (a quarter of an hour), sports (half time), reporting on progress (I'm 2/3 of the way through this book) percentages - discounts (20% off), weather reports (75% chance of rain), random statistics people give that are usually wrong (did you know 95% of people will make up statistics claiming they are real), statistics that are real (33% of people who have pets in Canada own cats, tips (usually of 10-20%)

TO SOLVE
+ =
The denominators are the same so we leave them. Just add the numerators. Reduce if possible. - = Find a common denominator. It could be 8 or 32. If 8 is chosen you multiply denominator and numerator by 2 = Then subtract numerators.

MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTIONS
Explain the steps involved in solving multiplication of fractions.

= =

SO WHAT DID YOU DO

= Multiply across. 3 x 2
5x 7 35

an improper fraction and then multiply across as before

x x

= You need to make 2

LETS DIVIDE FRACTIONS

Explain the steps involved in solving division of fractions.

ITS RECIPROCAL TIME!!!!

"Dividing fractions, as easy as pie, Flip the second fraction, then multiply. And don't forget to simplify, Before it's time to say goodbye" Another way to remember is: "leave me, change me, turn me over"

6 2

Makes sense because there are 3 one sixths in one half
