Part B
This lesson plan was inspired by the seriousness of cyberbullying. n today's society
cyberbullying is a very critical topic because it affects the emotional state of mind of our youth.
Educators need to understand what cyberbullying is and the effects it has on those affected.
Victims of cyberbullying will be greatly affected to the point where their school work and social life
are impacted. Technology's presence in the classroom is increasing with every passing day. t
can aid in classroom instruction, but teachers of today's society need to learn about the serious
ramifications that can come from the use of technology. With this lesson we aimed to teach
educators what cyberbullying is and different forms it can take. We wanted to emphasize that
cyberbullying does not just happen on Facebook; it can happen on Twitter, email, texting,
nstagram, MySpace, Skype, and other various social media outlets. We wanted the teachers to
collaborate and discuss about cyberbullying. By talking with one another, it will hopefully answer
questions for those teachers who have them and get teachers interested in stopping
cyberbullying. To emphasize the importance of cyberbullying, we created a certificate that the
teachers will receive once they have gone through the training. t will be something tangible to
show they attended, but also something they can hang in their classroom for students to see.

n this article, Tiffany Witkowski, a 17 year old girl at Metropolitan Science High School in
Chicago, tells the story of how she had gotten rid of her Facebook account due to cyberbullying.
As a result, she joined a group of anti-cyberbullying supporters and worked with them on creating
a anti-cyberbullying video called "Your Social Life. The video talks about how big of an issue
cyberbullying is and informs kids on how to avoid as well as deal with it. This article relates to our
lesson plan because it sheds a great deal of light on how serious of an issue cyber-bullying
actually is as well as how harmful its effects can be. n our lesson plan, we presented two
youtube videos that give heart-wrenching examples of teens who have been affected by
cyberbullying. We also show a PowerPoint that informs teachers everything they should know
about cyberbullying and to help a child who is being harassed through through it.

n our second article, Protecting Kids from Cyberbullying, Common Sense Media from
PBS parents explains how cyberbullying can take many forms, from individual bullying to public
harassment. t then goes on to state the importance of being informed about cyberbullying, as it
has a much bigger impact then one would think. Cyberbully 411 reports, "40% of kids say their
cyberbullying took place on instant messenger services. 30% said it happened on social
networking sites, and 29% said they were bullied while playing an online game (2010, par. 3).
The conclusion of the article then gives pointers on what to do should child be experiencing
cyberbullying. One of the tips given is to change your contact information and block the bully.
This article greatly summed up the whole purpose of our lesson plan because we gave similar
ways of handling a cyberbully as well as important facts designed to encourage people to take
action against cyberbullying.
