Of the many personal effects found in the fallen President's pockets, one of the more curious items was an 1864 $5 Confederate note. No one is sure why Lincoln had the Confederate note although some have speculated that he may have received it as a memento during his April 4, 1865 visit to Richmond following the evacuation of the city by Confederate forces. Below is an original 1864 Confederate States of America $5 note of the same exact type that was found in Lincoln's pockets. The actual note taken from his person is located at the National Archives in Washington,
